Vandergrift Public Library Director
Vandergrift Public Library: Director Role — Full-time job position 35 hours per week required. Schooling of at least 9 MLS credits will be required within 18 months of hire. Financial support for needed schooling is included with the compensation package. Schedule includes some evenings and weekends. Current child abuse, criminal history and FBI clearances are required before serving in the role.

Job Description
Summary: The Director Job responsibilities include leading and managing the overall library operations and team, providing library services at circulation desk, collaborating with the board of trustees and community partners to develop library programming and fundraising.
Requirements: The director must be flexible, highly organized, able to work independently, skilled at leading and able to work well with library staff to retain a positive work environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage library finances through using QuickBooks: pay bills, run reports for Treasurer and manage and develop the library budget.
- Provide working hour summaries for each employee to Accountant biweekly for completing payroll.
- Provide all financial records to Accountant so they may do an annual review or audit for each year.
- Use end-of-year financial report from Quick Books to develop annual report for library, and complete required state report each year.
- Lead the library team – This includes supporting the Circulation Desk Manager in scheduling work hours, reviewing and signing time sheets, approving vacations & sick days & maintaining annual attendance records for each employee. Keep current child abuse, criminal history and FBI clearances for the director and each employee.
- Assist with board member recruitment and retention.
- Engage Fundraising, Grant writing, and soliciting sponsorships
- Manage website content
- Manage purchases for book collections in collaboration with the full team, with each staff member contributing their ideas and suggestions. Support the Collection Manager in fulfilling requests for Memorials. Support the Youth Program Manager in planning & engaging youth programming. Support the Circulation Desk Manager with overseeing the circulation desk operations, including developing and sharing library policies in accordance with county and state standards.
- Order supplies for library needs and maintain heating & cooling equipment. Coordinate building renovations as need and funds become available.
- Attend as many monthly Directors’ meetings as possible and as required, hosted by our Westmoreland County Federated Library System and held in Greensburg with the 20+ other Westmoreland County Directors.
- Engage Public Outreach at community events to keep up our relationships with local businesses and other organizations in a positive, collaborative manner.
- Develop staff job descriptions, recommend and administer personnel policies, and ensure that staff performance evaluations are completed on a regular schedule.
- Recruit, hire, evaluate, and coach library staff, including in conformity with state and federal regulations and library personnel policies. Assure all hiring forms required by laws and regulations are collected for each employee.
